4.5 - Sweep me off my feet - SMOOCHES

"Our gazes lock as he finds my eyes and I get lost in his, lost in watching him, lost in wanting him." - Aerie
Kim Karr is my go-to author for two things .... romance and steam.  She brings both … without fail!  And I love that!!!  I love knowing that I can read one of her books and I’ll be swept off my feet, covered in goose bumps, and counting down the minutes until my husband gets home from work.

Dazed is no exception.   Kim does it again with Jagger Kennedy.

Jagger Kennedy.  ** swoon **

Dazed is a standalone character spinoff of the Connection series.  Jagger is River’s cousin (we met River Wilde and his wife Dahlia in Connected and Torn) and he finds himself in a relationship with Aerie (Dahlia’s BFF).  You do not need to read the first two book in the series to enjoy Dazed.

A chance meeting in a bakery sets the stage for Aerie Daniels to be swept off her feet by the handsome model, aspiring actor Jagger Kennedy.  From the moment she meets him, Aerie innately knows something is different.  Jagger is perfect, too good to be true really but Aerie puts her doubting nature aside and goes with it, trusting Jagger and her heart instead of her head for a change.

Aerie falls head over heals for Jagger (OMG, WHO WOULDN'T .... JAGGER IS PERFECTION) and he seems to feel the same but when his ex-girlfriend stumbles into their happiness Aerie is consumed with doubt and insecurity.  So much so she calls things off with Jagger.

How far will Jagger go to win her back?  Can Aerie let go of the past and move forward with Jagger?

From the get-go, my heart ached for Aerie.  The first time she let a man into her heart had ended in disaster, tainting every relationship she would have moving forward.
"Sex is also something that's always been a struggle for me.  I don't see what it is that women find so enticing about it." - Aerie
Poor Aerie.  She's extremely set in her ways, maybe a tiny bit compulsive, and at times I could totally relate.  When Jagger drives her car, her first thought is how her insurance doesn't cover him.  And when they find their way to her bed, she worries they should pull the comforter down first.  Sadly, that is me, LOL!  I felt a kinship with Aerie and her heartaches became my heartaches.  Her moments of joy became mine.  I was on this journey with her.  And I loved every minute of it!

Aerie Daniels

There’s something deliciously perverse about staring through the clear glass. All of my senses engage as I wait in line—the fragrance that fills the air as the fire crackles beneath the foil wrapped treats wafts under my nose, the beauty in each and every small package as they line the shelves with tiny dots and colored sprinkles mesmerizes me, the sound made as the silver sheet is peeled back to reveal the magnificence it holds captivates me, and the anticipation of the taste makes my mouth water. Ummm… just thinking of the first bite into the moist brown exterior with its bittersweet Belgian chocolate complimenting the flavor of the Madagascar bourbon vanilla that oozes from its inside has me trembling. The black and white cupcake—it’s simply perfection. Amidst the skyscrapers in Los Angeles’ South Park neighborhood, Sprinkles is a gem tucked away for those of us who seek out a small piece of heaven. I don’t come here often, but when I do it’s for that one special treat. The menu describes it as, “Yin and Yang.” An ancient proverb that says, “Complementary opposites, such as light and dark, day and night, and masculine and feminine, seemingly may exist as contrary forces, but are actually interconnected.” Simply put, it says one gives rise to the other and it’s true— opposites attract. Without the vanilla inside, one could not possibly crave the chocolate outside—looking at the two parts united has me drooling.

“You know what they say about staring through the glass,” a deep husky voice says from behind me.

His words tingle my skin and my gaze snaps up. “Excuse me?” I stop short, in a daze, not even sure what he just said I was so lost in my thoughts.

He chuckles. “You know what they say about staring through the glass,” he repeats. My eyes blink and come into focus on the upward tilt of his full lips. Then my eyes move to his smooth pale skin flecked with a light stubble, his nose seemingly sculpted even with a slight imperfection in its slope, large eyes with the most unusual gray color swirling from within, and chocolate brown colored hair framing his face in pieces—I’m not sure if he has just rolled out of bed or if product molds it just so. Either way, he is utterly beautiful.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Just be careful so you don’t fall in like Alice.” He smiles, displaying his bright white teeth.

“Again, I’m sorry but I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I notice his eyes sweep over me and my heart starts pounding.

“Through the Looking Glass,” he responds in a dangerously husky voice.

This time when he speaks I catch an accent, ever so slight but extremely sexy. It reminds me of how Robert De Nero talks, just not as loud or fast. I continue to stare, unable to respond. I notice that his physique is long and lean. He’s dressed in worn jeans that fit him perfectly. His orange laced hiking boots scream I don’t conform. A pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses hang from the V of his gray sweater, which clings to his body perfectly. And an outdoor vest tops the outfit. It throws me off. It makes him look more like an Abercrombie model than a James Dean type. It’s a navy blue down and quilted one with a silver zipper. I don’t know why, but something about his outfit, about this man, captivates me.

“Number 98,” calls the girl from behind the counter.

He steps closer. His warm breath whispers across my neck. “Through the Looking Glass is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. When Alice gets too close to the glass, she falls in and starts on a crazy journey,” he tells me as his arm waves in the air with a green ticket on display. Stepping closer, his gaze cuts from mine to the glass case as he hands his number to the clerk whose wearing a cute brown apron with the word Sprinkles scripted across it.

“Can I have a dozen of the black and white cupcakes?” he asks. Suddenly alarmed, my eyes dart to the case as I watch the single remaining row of beautifully crafted cupcakes diminish until there are none left. My irritation flares as I glance at my number—97.

The beautiful stranger hands the clerk his credit card and waits to sign the slip. “I was number 97, my number was before yours,” I say as he’s handed the bag that holds his treasure.

“Oh, I’m sorry. Here let me get the sales clerk’s attention so you don’t have to take another number,” he says.

I want to stomp my feet. I want to scream. I don’t want her attention. I don’t want another number. I want the cupcakes that he stole from me.

“Miss,” he calls draping his perfectly fit body over the case. She looks his way and with a charming grin he says, “Can you help this lovely lady? She missed her number being called.”

“Of course, I’m so sorry. How can I help you?” the girl asks averting her eyes from the man who looks like he should be on the cover of GQ magazine, over to me.

He smiles at me with a face that belongs on a billboard. “Don’t fall in.”

I swear he’s goading me. But then he tips his chin and a sexy, smoldering grin passes over his lips and I’m not so sure anymore. He turns to look at me one more time before he exits, and excitement flushes over my face. I nod a slight cursory acknowledgement, then he disappears and disappointment washes over me—he’s gone. Crap. The cupcakes are also gone. Double crap. And now I’m left wondering if he saw me staring at that flavor? Did he distract me on purpose so he could purchase them first? Urrr…I’m so angry right now I consider walking out, but when the clerk asks me what I’d like I settle for the Vanilla Milk Chocolate cakes—they are the mirror reflection of the black and whites, with vanilla cake and chocolate frosting, but they are not nearly as good.

About CD Reiss

CD Reiss
CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles. Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Selene's Review
4.5 - WOWSA! - Smooches

I have to just say it .... I LOVED the conclusion to Brad and Julia's story.  This book alone took this series from being "ok" to being something  I'd totally recommend.  End of the Innocence is the final book in the Innocence series and ends the three-way, mob-invested antics of two characters that grabbed a hold of me and would not let go.

If you have not read the series, this review might be a bit spoiler-esque so I'll give a quick spoiler free rundown of the series before focusing on this book in greater detail.  Thirty-four year old Brad De Luca (rich, hot, successful, sex god attorney) meets Julia Campbell, twenty-one year old college senior while she is interning at his law firm.  Julia receives multiple warnings to steer clear of the man whore that is Brad De Luca and she tries, sort of, at first, to avoid his advances but Brad is persistent and persuasive and, well, irresistable.  Julia does not stand a chance.  After a weekend in Vegas (one that totally soured me towards Brad), Julia discovers she might not be the "good girl" she always thought she was and getting involved with Brad might not be such a bad idea after all ..... despite his sexual "tendencies."

Brad exposes Julia to the world of kink by introducing her to activities typically not deemed "normal" for a monogamous couple.  They are both surprised how Julia embraces Brad's lifestyle.  And just when you think book 2 is going to be an all out sex-filled kinkfest, things take a big u-turn and go into a completely different direction.  It wasn't bad necessarily, just a totally different vibe than the first book.

Julia finds herself in grave danger and Brad finds out just how far he'll go to protect her.  And it's FAR!

And now we come to the third book in the series and ** SPOILERS ** if you are new to this story so stop reading now!  = )

Wowsa!  This book seriously grabbed me by balls (or would have if I actually had some) and would not let go.   End of the Innocence is the perfect mesh of the differing vibes from the first two books .... Brad and Julia continuing to explore sexually and the dangers brought on by Brad's family each set the tone of the story all while Brad and Julia prepare for their big wedding day.

Julia and Brad's engagement is anything but uneventful.  Julia is forced to "come out" at work and the fallout from being with Brad is worse than she expected (see excerpt below!).  Julia and Brad also confront Brad's father over Thanksgiving and it goes TERRIBLY.
"For someone who owes me her life, you are a nasty little bitch." - Mr. Magiano
This forces Brad to once again severs ties with his family.

One thing I wasn't expecting and that I loved about this book was the fact that Alessandra took Brad and Julia's sex life to a different level.  More than just bringing a third party into their relationship the story also analyzes the emotional impact that might have on them.
How different would reality be? Or was it the aftermath I should be considering?  The doubts, insecurities?  How much of a role would they play? - Julia
My fear was that she was doing this for me, thinking that this is something I needed, I wanted.  My fear was that she hated this, and I was killing a piece of her sexual fire with every stroke into this stranger. - Brad
Alessandra's writing in SPOT ON in this book and dare I say much, much hotter than the first two.  I love that it's not just all about sex with Brad and Julia ....  there is suspense and danger that keeps you on high alert.  All traces of the Brad that I disliked in the first book are long gone.
I hope she never knows how vulnerable I am.  it is terrifying to me.  I hate it - hate how much I love her.  I never planned for this.  I wanted a companion, and instead turned over my entire heart. - Brad
Brad has completely redeemed himself and is the stuff book boyfriends are made of (well, threesome lifestyle aside!).

This series has it all ....  it's super steamy, it's well written, has characters you can't help but attach to, and is dangerous to boot! If threesomes aren't a deal-breaker for you, I have no doubt you will enjoy this series!  <3!

Excerpt

7:45 a.m. The doomed walk of the dead through the lobby. I shielded my ring finger with my purse and smiled a brief hello to Ancient Dorothy, bee-lining for the elevators. I rode up alone, taking advantage of the silence to whisper a short prayer—apologizing for any recent sins and praying for compassion.

I was making coffee when the first person noticed the ring. It was hard to miss, sparkling brilliantly under overhead fluorescents, and Beverly, the wing’s secretary, pounced on it like a kitten going after catnip. “What is that?” She dropped her lunch box in the fridge and grabbed my hand with both of hers, oblivious to the dirty coffee filter I was holding, and I watched in irritation as used grounds flew everywhere, spotting the white tile with black specks. Her squat body was rooted to the ground, and she gripped my hand with a warrior’s intensity, her eyes fixated on the ring like it was a steaming hot funnel cake. I tried to gently tug my hand away, but it was like trying to pull Excalibur’s sword from the stone.

“I didn’t know you were dating anyone!” Beverly’s eyes left the stone and focused on me intently. “Did you get back together with your ex?”

“Errr ... No.” I smiled, though I think it came off more like a grimace. “This is someone new.”

“And you’re already engaged?” She tilted her head at me, puzzled, and I cursed the day I ever shared a moment of personal discussion with this woman, or any other creature on this floor.

“Yes. It is quite sudden.” I looked pointedly at the deflated coffee filter, and she released my hand with a quick, hurried movement.

“Oh my goodness, dear, I am sorry.”

I smiled and moved to the trash, dumping the filter and hoping she would leave.

“That is quite a ring. What does your fiancé do?” She moved closer, officially entering my personal bubble.

Aw crap. “He’s an attorney.” I said offhand, washing my hands as noisily as possible, then started opening and closing cabinets, trying to put as many items and sounds between Beverly and me as possible. “I really can’t chat, Beverly. I’ve got to get this coffee on.”

“An attorney!” She beamed proudly. “Well, I know lots of attorneys. You know, I’ve been here thirteen years, and our cases involve firms from all over the city. He’s got to be a new attorney, maybe he interned here. What’s his name?”

I filled up the water reservoir, making a face and pointing to my ear, as if the pathetic pressure from the faucet was a gushing flow of Niagara proportions. That didn’t work. She waited patiently by the sink, and the minute I turned the faucet off, she spoke. “What’s his name?”

Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. I was out of options. “I think you probably know him,” I said brightly, adding the water container to the coffee pot, and scooping out fresh grounds. “He works in the East Wing. His name is Brad.”

I really didn’t want to look at her, didn’t want to see whatever expression crossed her face, but my eyes were drawn to her without bidding, as if they had flipped my subconscious the bird and did exactly what they wanted to because ohmygodthiswasgoingtobetoogoodtomiss. She tilted her head, probably trying to think what peon in the East Wing was named Brad, because it couldn’t possibly be the Brad, and I watched with slow horror the moment her mind came up blank and rested on the only possible conclusion.

She stilled, her sturdy body freezing, and teetered a bit, sticking a hand out and grabbing the counter. Her face took on an odd expression, somewhere between smelling something sour and being constipated. It contorted for three long seconds, in which her mouth opened and closed twice, no words coming out. Finally, she swallowed hard and tried again.

“Brad De Luca?” Her voice still held a glimmer of hope, a possibility that she might be mistaken, that there was some new guy, some pencil-pushing nerd stuck in a small corner of divorce, who she hadn’t yet heard of. Some Brad Smith, or Taylor, or anything other than De Luca. I hated to squash that hope, almost felt a civil duty to lie. Almost.

I finished the damn coffee-making process and pushed START with an almost proud finality. Made it through that alive. Then, I turned back to Beverly. “Yes. Brad De Luca. Good, you do know him.” We did this weird country line dance shuffle where I tried to get around her, and she unintentionally kept getting in my way, and then I finally escaped, and was halfway out the door when I felt her iron grip on my arm. I turned, pasting a bright smile on my face. “Yes?”

I was yanked backward so hard I think one of my heels partially came off. Unsure, confused Beverly was gone, and in her place was a court marshal of Judge Judy proportions. She shut the kitchen door in a swift motion—I didn’t even know the kitchen had a door—and stuck both hands on her hips, squaring off to me. “You. Are Engaged. To Brad. De Luca.” She spoke slowly, drawing out the sentence excruciatingly, and seemed to physically grow bigger with every word.

“Yes.” I tried to maintain a cheerful disposition, but the air in the room was thick, and I was a little worried she might eat me for lunch instead of whatever was in her polka dotted lunchbox.

Heather's Review:
5 "I won't be free until you are" smooches!!

-In his four-year college career as a linebacker, he had caught a record twenty-three interceptions.  As a trained sex slave, he would catch seven digits in an offshore account.

- She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters.  Somewhere along the way, she’d become one.

Liv is a deliverer.  She captures and trains young men and women to be sold as sex slaves.
“I am a deliverer.  I deliver the strikes that enforce your obedience…  I deliver the sexual training that justifies your purchase price… In ten weeks, I will deliver you to be sold.”

When Josh Carter stopped to help a damsel in distress he got more than he bargained for.  He was kidnapped, chained, and locked away to be tortured.  Josh was starved, beaten, and sexually abused, but somehow kept faith and hoped that he would get out… that he would survive.
She was a demon in the form of the most beautiful girl on earth.  If he peered into her liquid brown eyes, he might’ve found the cruelest corners of the world there.

But what Josh found was his own conquest.  Determined to get his captor to crack, he once again gets more than he ever expected.
Maybe God put him in this situation to test him with the ultimate challenge, to save the darkest of souls.
Liv is failing.  She has trained and delivered seven slaves but can’t seem to break Josh Carter.  Liv has a lot riding on this delivery.  She can’t allow emotions to mess this up for her.  She can’t afford to get attached.
He was the soul of bravery wrapped in chains.  He would never fall, no matter how much metal weighted him down.  He was a man who loved selflessly and honestly, and she was taking him to a monster who would slice him open and fuck the incision.

Never has Liv been so conflicted about what she has to do.  She HAS to do this and it is eating at her.  Somehow she has fallen for her captive.  But, it doesn’t matter.  Too much depends upon her success.  It has never really been a choice for Liv.  Only now, not only is she going to sell her soul to the devil but her heart as well.
“I stand here without rope or chains, Liv, tethered to you by my own will… I won’t be free until you are.”
Holy shit, Pam, has done it again.  There is just something about Pam’s writing that holds me captive.  I hang on every word.  I feel every emotion.  I love every moment.  Captive… it’s been done before.  Sex slave…  yep, it’s been done too.  Deliver is completely original.  It is not like any other book I have read and that was my biggest fear going in.  While I would classify Deliver as a “dark read,” it could fit into so many other categories as well.  It is a forbidden romance.  It is a thriller.  And it is a mystery.  I love all of the twists and turns that Pam puts into her books.  You will NOT see what is coming.  I am addicted to her writing and can’t wait to see what Pam’s creepy little mind dreams up for us next!

Selene's Review

5 - not what I expected but BETTER - SMOOCHES

He looked at her like he thought he could save her.  Maybe he could.

If you’ve read Pam’s first book, BENEATH THE BURN, you know what I was expecting when I say I was expecting more of the same … shocking, dark, depraved deviance that is nestled inside a well-written story.

And it is exactly that …. and so much more.

So.  Much.  More.

Pam has the ability to do things few authors have the ability to do …  the suspense in this book had me hanging on the edge of my seat, had my heart racing, had me needing to close my kindle and take a break …. seriously, had to put the kindle down and walk away because I just knew what was about to happen was going to be too much to take.  Heck, I’m surprised I haven’t started smoking while reading her books.  I get that stressed out (who doesn't love a book that makes us feel that much?).  She is amazingly gifted and talented.

Liv is a sex trafficker.  Along with her partner Van, they select, kidnap, train, and, finally, deliver slaves to their masters.  Early on, we learn that  Liv is not a willing participant.

She was stolen innocence, following the rules of monsters.  Somewhere along the way, she became one.

We also learn that Van is more than a little sick and twisted but in his own tortured way loves Liv.

But sometimes, in the dark, the intensity of his stare and the openness of his lust almost felt like love.

Their relationship is complicated and Liv has resigned herself to it.

Josh is Liv and Van’s eighth slave to be delivered.  Liv selects him specifically to meet the buyer's needs and maybe even a little of her own.  He is young and beautiful, strong and virtuous, a man destined for a life in ministry.  He is a virgin.

As Josh’s training begins, very little goes as planned.  Josh is not one to roll over and accept a fate he does not want.  He is not one to go down without a fight.

Maybe God put him in this situation to test him with the ultimate challenge, to save the darkest of soles.

There is so much more I want to share but I don’t want to spoil anything.  Where the story goes … not at all what I was expecting.  I didn’t expect to fall in love with a broken girl who did horrible things.  I didn’t expect to want so badly for someone to save her.  I didn’t expect for this girl to be something other than what I thought she was.

I love what Pam did with these characters.

I can say without a doubt that Deliver is a 2014 must read ... one of my favorites so far.  I have absolutely no doubt, no matter what books come my way, it will remain in my top five for the year.

If you think this book might not be something you’d embrace, this is one book you should take a chance on.  Some parts might not be for you, heck, some parts weren’t for me but, overall, the story is a satisfying web of heartache, love, lust, suspense, and hope.

Thank you Pam …. for rocking my world once again!

As a standoff of epic proportions began between Chelsea and me. My hackles rose, and I knew I would never back down from her. I wasn’t a revengeful person, but as soon as someone starts hurting the people I care about and throwing around half-arsed accusations, they will see the wrath of Savannah. This could be the very reason I chose to have limited female friends. It was easier than having to deal with the bullshit games girls were notorious for starting, and clearly this was why I never hid my intentions when it came to men in the past. Be clear as day and no feelings came to the surface. I felt Mr. Davenport sigh beside me and I swallowed hard. Professional, Savannah. For him.

I still didn’t back down as I spoke. “So I am assuming the—”

“Um, excuse me? I was told that I needed to be here.”

Our heads snapped to the door opening slowly, and I couldn’t believe who I was looking at, could this day get any weirder? Blake freaking Ryan had just walked through the door looking all rock star-ish. This was the first time we had seen each other since he had left New York for London.

His eyes widened to the size of saucers as he took everything in. Dressed head to toe in black, he was wearing a shirt that sat snug against his body, and his tattoos were glistening under the boardroom lights. He was born to be a rock star.

His eyes bounced between Tate and me and dropped to my hand gripped tightly in Tate’s and a smile tugged at his lips. Tate’s body stiffened against mine and his hand squeezed mine to the point of hurt like he was making his claim on me.

“Stop it,” I hissed and shot him a pleading look.

“Sorry, just habit,” he whispered then peppered my jaw with a kiss.

“Thanks for coming in, Blake.” Mr. Davenport shuffled papers on the large conference table and looked towards Blake, holding out a pen and what looked to be a contract. “So you have been booked for the shoot next week and we are now just finalizing details. Savannah will be running the shoot on behalf of Beautify and Chelsea will be the female model for the campaign. If you can just sign here, we are good to go.”

Blake shook his head and shot a disgusted look at Chelsea. “Are you serious? I can’t work with her.”

“See? I told you, Savannah. Even Blake doesn’t want to work with you in your pathetic little fairytale world you are supposedly living in,” Chelsea spat before she threw her straw-looking hair over her shoulder and strutted towards Blake. I watched Blake closely; the look sweeping over his face was priceless.

“I wasn’t talking about Savannah, you idiot. I cannot work with you, Chelsea. I tend to not want to associate with fucked-up, conniving bitches.”

I couldn’t hide the smile of victory tugging on my lips. Blake Ryan, you genius. The look of utter devastation Chelsea was wearing made me feel like a million bucks. I still had no clue of the history that Chelsea and Blake shared.

“Well isn’t this going to be a fun shoot,” Mr. Davenport mumbled under his breath.
