I was ordinary. Nice. He was extraordinary. And he wasn’t always nice. Moody and difficult, brilliant and beautiful, Kes scared me and he protected me. He could be incredibly hurtful and incredibly thoughtful. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for me. He challenged me, he took me out of my safe little box and showed me the world could be magnificent. He was everything I wasn’t.

Aimee Anderson is ten when the traveling carnival first comes to her nice little town. She doesn’t expect her world to change so completely. But meeting Kestrel Donohue puts her life on a different path. Even though she only sees him for the two weeks of the year when he passes through her home town, his friendship is the most important of her life. As a child’s friendship grows to adult love, the choices become harder, and both Kes and Aimee realize that two weeks a year will never be enough.

I was on the journey before I even knew our story had started.
Funny the way things work out.

I am IN LOVE with this story!!!!

I wasn't really sure what to expect going in but if I did actually have expectations, they would have certainly been blown away.

I adore love stories that begin when the MC's are young, they grow up together and their feelings eventually turn romantic.  Relationships like that just GRAB me from the get-go.
I didn't know it then;  I didn't understand what it meant, but whenever I looked at him, my skin felt warm, like my own personal sun was shining just for me.  - Aimee
The setting of this story is so unique (to me anyway).  I've never read a story set primarily in a carnival environment before this and I found it captivating.  There were many things you'd expect having only a "stereotypical" idea of what a carnie lifestyle might be like.  Since the story is "carnie-centric," Aimee is the outsider seeking approval most of the story which I find to be an interesting twist!
"I felt almost accepted as I strutted along beside them, my head held high.  I was Kes's girlfriend, and I wanted everyone to know it."  - Aimee
The thing I love most about this story .... it's Aimee's love for Kes.  It's unconditional, it's innocent, it's whole-hearted.  It's consuming.  And it consumed me.  Kes suffers from a learning disorder but Aimee sees past it and sees the man Kes is despite it.  GAHHHH!!!!!  I couldn't get enough.

So, imagine my surprise when there is a cliffhanger.  YES!!!  A cliffhanger.  Now I RARELY encourage anyone to start a series before it is complete but I will totally make an exception for The Traveling Man.  The story is so very unique ... I just can't imagine anything about it being forgotten for the second installment is released.

PLAYING IN THE RAIN BY JANE HARVEY-BERRICK (COVER REVEAL)

‘Playing In the Rain’
by Jane Harvey-Berrick
Expected July 1, 2014

“Can summer love last a lifetime?”

Ava Lawton can’t believe her run of bad luck. It’s supposed to be an exciting time in her life: fresh out of college, living in a new state, with a new job, and away from her family at last.

But when she’s forced to quit her job, everything falls apart quickly. Suddenly, she’s alone in a crowd, with no one to turn to.

At her lowest point, a stranger gives her a message that brings her hope.

Now is the time to live life her own way.

Now is the time to choose to be happy.

And maybe it’s time to let a beautiful stranger be part of her life.

I’d never felt so miserable. And it was still raining.

That’s when I saw him.

A blur of movement caught my eye as the rain on my windshield gave the illusion that I was underwater. He was running, which I suppose is what people do when they’re caught in the rain. A huge furry dog was running next to him, matching his long, even strides, both of them drenched and dripping, their feet splashing through puddles, raindrops running off their faces.

His white t-shirt had become transparent and clung to his muscled chest, and I could see the rapid rise and fall of every breath. He raised his hand, the tendons flexing in his forearm as he pushed his dripping black hair out of his eyes. And then he’d passed me, leaving a glimpse of his tight butt in a pair of running shorts, and long muscled legs striding out. All of those things caught my attention, but what totally captured and held it so I couldn’t look away was the huge smile of pleasure on his face.

He was soaked to the skin and smiling so wide I could see his even white teeth, grinning like a loon, like he was enjoying the rain.

LIFERS BY JANE HARVEY-BERRICK

Lifers
by Jane Harvey-Berrick
Released:  February 7, 2014

Synopsis

After eight years in prison, twenty-four year old Jordan Kane is the man everyone loves to hate.

Forced to return to his hometown while on parole, Jordan soon learns that this small town hasn't changed since he was carted off to juvie all those years ago. He is the local pariah, shunned by everyone, including his own parents. But their hatred of him doesn't even come close to the loathing he feels every time he looks in the mirror.

Working odd jobs for the preacher lady, Jordan bides his time before he can leave this backwards town. But can distance erase the memories that haunt him? Trapped in the prison of his own mind Jordan wonders if the pain of living will ever subside?

Torrey Delaney is new in town and certainly doesn't behave in a way the locals believe a preacher’s daughter should. Her reputation for casual hook-ups and meaningless sex is the talk of the town. Add that to her budding friendship with the hardened ex-con handyman, and the good Reverend is less than thrilled with her estranged daughter’s path.

As friendship forms, is it possible for two damaged people who are afraid to love take their relationship to the next level? Can Torrey live with Jordan’s demons, and can Jordan break through Torrey's walls? With the disapproval of a small town weighing heavily on them, will they find their place in the world? Can they struggle against the odds, or will their world be viciously shattered?

Is love a life sentence?

As a blogger, one of the things I love most is going into a book without one single expectation.  And that's hard to accomplish sometimes .... in the world of FB and Goodreads ... a book's word of mouth or reputation can get in your head and skew your thoughts before you even get started.  I went into Lifers with zero expectations and was blown away.

Lifers is Jordan and Torrey's story ... two people with "bad" reputations living in a small, unforgiving town.  Jordan is back home, serving out his parole.  He's struggling for so many reasons .... the town hates him, his parents blame him for their loss, he's isolated and alone, he's drowning in guilt and self-loathing.
For reasons I didn't understand, life had given me a second chance, and that was hard to deal with.  I had no clue how to live anymore. - Jordan
And then there's Torrey.  OMGee, I love her!   She's moved to town to stay with her mom, the town's preacher, and she's hell on wheels!  I love her spunk, her tenacity, and, most of all, her love and compassion for Jordan.
I wanted to help him, for sure, but there was more to it than that.  And not just the fact that the guy was seriously hot.  I wanted to know him, and I wanted him to have the chance to be the person he was meant to be, not just the shadow of a man he was right now. - Torrey
Lifers was such an emotional read for me.  The story is told from both Torrey and Jordan's points of view and I loved being inside their heads.  This is the first book I've read from Jane .... definitely won't be the last!
