TWOSOME TUESDAY: PROVOKE BY MISSY JOHNSON

Book: Provoke
Series: Provoke, Book 1
Author: Missy Johnson

Synopsis

Mace Jordan was not the type of guy I expected to sweep me off my feet. I knew of the crowd he ran with, and they were bad news. But beyond that tough, biker exterior was a sweetheart, and one that treated me like his princess. I liked being the good girl with the bad boy, but I never expected this. What I saw on his computer…I thought I knew him.

But I was wrong. So wrong…

If there was ever a bad time for me to fall for a chick it was now, but from the moment I saw Leeta, she had me. There was something special about her, and I had to have her. But I also had a job to do, and I couldn’t let her distract me from that. I couldn’t let her discover that side of me either. But she’s not stupid, and I know she’s getting close. God knows what she’ll do if she discovers the truth.

Or what she thinks is the truth.

4 smooches

Going into Provoke, I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I did not even read the synopsis because I wanted to go in completely blind.  I’m glad that I did.  I saw nothing that was coming and I love the shock factor that doing so allows.  Provoke is a dark-ish read.  I tend to lean toward the dark and really enjoyed it!

Mace comes from a family notorious for their criminal behavior and Leeta is a prosecutor.  They have a forbidden romance (another of my weaknesses) and not many are in support of their relationship…  Especially not Leeta’s parents.   Despite his family’s background Mace appears to be a good guy.  But we all know that appearances can be deceiving.  When Leeta discovers some very disturbing and incriminating videos on Mace’s computer she is not sure how to feel… what to believe… or what, if anything, she should do about it.

This is where the story really picks up.  The subject matter is really disturbing... I think the one thing lacking for me was the sexy.  Bc the sex going on in this book was anything but.  It was different for a Missy book but also in a way refreshing.  She proved to me that she can write more than candy.  There are little twists and turns that keep you engaged and wondering what is coming next.  I recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick "different" read.  This is not your cookie cutter romance!

3.5 Smooches

My review is going to be short and sweet .... just like this book!

Leeta and Mace are in L.O.V.E.  And it's forbidden ... eeeeek ... who doesn't love a "forbidden" relationship?
I was a good girl prosecutor in love with the son of a notorious gangland killer.  I lived by the law, where his family made their own.
Mace is near perfect so their relationship is worth the hassle of her parent's disapproval and her friends' criticism.
He was my rough-talking tough guy, but more than that, he was a sweet, thoughtful man who would do anything for me.
Even though he comes from "bad," Mace is anything but ..... or so Leeta thinks.  One day when Leeta borrows Mace's computer, she discovers secrets about him that challenge everything Leeta believed Mace to be.

While I enjoyed Provoke, it left me wanting more.  It seemed to take awhile for the story to take shape and when it finally did, everything happened quickly, and then BOOM, The End.  Leeta and Mace are two characters I really liked but I didn't really feel like I knew them as good as I should have .... or as good as I wanted to.

If you are looking for a quick, sexy, different story line with a "WTH is going on?" twist, one that you won't dissect in terms of character development or plot execution, you will enjoy this book.  If you are a stickler for those things, you should probably pass.

I will say though, I could stare at that cover all damn day, LOL!  Missy never fails with giving us a sexy guy and it's nice that we have a visual this time around!
