RW &RW2- T. Torrest Blog Tour

Remember When

RW Blurb
Ever wonder how often Brad Pitt's high school girlfriend must ponder jumping off a bridge? Ever think about the girl that had her hooks in George Clooney before he took off for TV stardom? How about Leonardo DiCaprio's ex, or Johnny Depp's first groupie, or any number of young women who got left behind when their boyfriends set off for greener pastures and eventually achieved unfathomable Hollywood fame?

My name is Layla Warren and I don't need to wonder about any of those things. I already know. Because years before Trip Wiley could be seen on movie screens all over the world, he could be seen sitting in the desk behind me in my high school English class.

This was back in 1990, and I cite the year only to avoid dumbfounding you when references to big hair or stretch pants are mentioned. Although, come to think of it, I am from New Jersey, which may serve as explanation enough. We were teenagers then, way back in a time before anyone could even dream he'd turn into the Hollywood commodity that he is today.

In case you live under a rock and don't know who Trip Wiley is, just know that these days, he's the actor found at the top of every casting director's wish list. He's incredibly talented and insanely gorgeous, the combination of which has made him very rich, very famous and very desirable.

And not just to casting directors, either.

I can't confirm any of the gossip from his early years out in Tinseltown, but based on what I knew of his life before he was famous, I can tell you that the idea of Girls-Throwing-Themselves-At-Trip is not a new concept.

I should know. I was one of them.

And my life hasn't been the same since.

5 Take Me Back Smooches!

Two things tend to make me happy … (1) a walk down "Memory Lane" and (2) a good high school romance. The second is weird, I know, considering I'm a grown a$$ woman but I can't help it. My husband laughs every time he catches me watching Dawson's Creek (c'mon, it's Pacey!!) and Awkward. Two words .… Matty McKibben.. Enough said.

Since I'm a fool for most things "high school," I had a feeling I'd like this book before I even started reading it. What caught me off guard, though, was just how much I PUFFY HEART LOVED IT!!!!

Along with every female at St. Normans, Layla Warren is smitten with the new kid, Terrence Wilmington III (Trip). Sparks fly and Layla keeps finding herself thrown together with Trip - they have English Lit together, they work at the video store together, and they are partners on a big school project that has them spending lots of time together after school. Layla falls hard for Trip. The story is told from her POV so we know exactly what she's feeling and thinking and how much she wants more than friendship with Trip. The only thing we know about Trip's feelings are Layla's assumptions.

It's agonizing, LOL! With Trip's words and actions, we get glimpses of what he might be feeling for Layla but they NEVER talk about things. Layla's insecurities get the better of her and it doesn't help when her BFF Lisa (who's fantastic!) gives some crappy advice (with the best of intentions). When Trip and Layla have a big misunderstanding, Trip tries to get Layla to open up but her stubbornness prevails. They spend the next five months apart, being acquaintances at best. It isn't until the end of the school year that a pretty big moment for Trip brings them back together for the summer.

And oh what a summer it is!

If any of these words ... Jordache jeans, parachute pants, Guess, ZCavaricci's, Spin-the-bottle, Sun-in, AquaNet, Gucci, Ford Bronco, "What's your damage?," NKOTB, or Anais Anais ... hold a special place in your heart, just stop reading this blog post and go click already … you will love Remember When ... cross my heart!

Thank you T.Torrest for giving me two characters I seriously love and a story I cannot get enough of. Remember When 2 is equally fabulous (see Heather's review) and I am anxiously counting down the days until I can find out how Trip and Layla's story ends.

Remember When 2

RW2 Blurb

You know how sometimes, your high school crush grows up to be an insanely famous movie star? Okay, probably not. But I do. ~Layla Warren

Back in high school, Trip Wiley's fanbase only encompassed the denizens of the nothing little suburb of Norman, New Jersey.

Ten years later, all that is about to change.

In the summer of 2000, Layla Warren is enjoying her career as a journalist in New York City (well, sort of), while Trip spends most of his time grabbing Hollywood by the balls. In the days before what will turn out to be his skyrocketing fame, they'll find themselves confronted with some life-altering choices.

Remember When 2 is the second story in an NA romance trilogy. It will bring you back to that exuberant and riotous time of life in your twenties when you struggled to figure out your place in the world and the person you were meant to be…

…and the person you were meant to be with.

**Intended for ages 18+ due to some questionable language and sex.**

Heather's Review:

5 Chesterific SMOOCHES!!

It was excruciating at first, getting over Trip. Not that I ever really did, mind you. But during those first years, I had no other choice but to go on with my life. Because, do you ever really get over your first love? Even during your twenties, when you experience that initial taste of being a grown-up… that teenager still lives inside you. That person you were before the world started telling you how to be, what to say, who you should be with. Before you lost yourself in expectations and plans…

Layla spent the first few years after high-school comparing all of her boyfriends to Trip. She was hurt and confused that he just went on with his life and didn't seem to give her a second thought. Layla convinced herself that maybe they weren't as close as she thought… maybe the feelings were all one sided and she needed to give up on the dream of finding that kind of love again.

There was no substitute for Terrence Chester Wilmington the Third. There never would be.

Layla is working at Now! Magazine in New York City. She is engaged to Devin, who also happens to be her boss. When Layla discovers that Trip is filming a movie in New York, she convinces Devin to get her an interview. This could be a huge break for her career and well... she hasn't seen Trip in ten years.

It was only slightly impossible to remember how to breathe… He literally did a double take, shaking his head in a futile attempt to rid himself of the sight of his old friend standing before him. I guessed he remembered me after all.

"Hey Chester. How's it hangin'?"

"Layla. Effing. Warren."

He was looking into my eyes, but his words were directed toward his publicist.

"This is the girl that got away, Sandy. I'm going to need more than just a few minutes with this one."

In Remember When, I fell in love with young Trip and Layla. And, I fell in love with grown Trip and Layla in Remember When 2. Their timing is consistently off. After ten years, they still have so much chemistry. Their easy friendship is one of the things I love most about this series. They really are perfect together. Now, if they could only both figure that out… at the same time. The end of RW2 broke my heart… again. I can't wait for RW3. I need closure… I want little Trip and Layla babies. I have to see these characters that I have come to love get their HEA!

T.Torrest has a beautiful style of writing. Her words flow fluidly. The conversations between her characters feel natural. Whether the conversation is witty or intense, it never feels contrived. In a world with SO many authors and off the wall stories; sometimes it is nice to just take it back to something that feels real. Trip and Layla feel real. Yes, he is a movie star… but, he is also just a normal guy. He has his insecurities. He has his faults. He still dreams about "the girl who got away." Who can't relate to that?

Exclusive excerpt of Remember When 3 - Part 2 of Chapter 2

I opened the car door into his hip, but he continued snapping away, asking a barrage of stupid, nosy questions. "Are you family? Are you Trip Wiley's girlfriend? Hey, over here! C'mon, lemme just get one shot! Who are you?"
I put my pocketbook in front of my face and shuffled toward the front door to the funeral home. I stopped with my fingers on the handle, just long enough to shoot back from behind my purse, "You should be ashamed of yourself! His father just died, asshole! Get a real job."
Okay, not necessarily graceful, but my God. What a bunch of bloodsuckers.
