Twosome Tuesday: The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller by L.B. Simmons

The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller
by L.B. Simmons

Synopsis:

***Standalone NA Romance with HEA***

Death.

For some, it’s simply one of life’s certainties, nothing more. For others, it’s merely a fleeting thought, one often overshadowed by the reckless delusion that they have been blessed with the gift of immortality.

For Aubrey Miller, death is the definition of her very existence. Overcome with the guilt resulting from the loss of her beloved family, she alters her appearance from the once beautiful, blonde-haired, blue-eyed little girl to that of one shrouded in complete darkness, enveloping herself in her own unbreakable fortress of solitude as a form of protection for others.

As she enters her first year of college, her goal is simple: Earn a degree with the least amount of social interaction as possible. What she never anticipates is the formation of very unlikely relationships with two people who will change her life in ways she never believed possible: Quinn Matthews, the boisterous former pageant queen, and Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend from her past who never really let her go.

Over the years, as their connections intertwine and grow, a seemingly indestructible bond is formed between the three…

But when death painfully reemerges, Aubrey is lost once again, burying herself deeper than ever before inside the familiar fortification of her fears.

Will the refuge of friendship, the solidarity of life-long bonds, and the power of unconditional love be enough to do the impossible?

Will they be enough to finally bring about…

The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller?

Heather's Review:
“…what people try to represent on the outside very rarely mirrors their inside. Beautiful people tend to be ugly, ugly people tend to be beautiful, storms tend to brew below a person’s cool, calm exterior, and tremendously happy people tend to be overcompensating for their own grief. Nothing is ever really what it seems.”
Aubrey is far from what she seems. She shuts herself off from the world by masking her beautiful soul with the most unappealing appearance she can muster. She has convinced herself that she is the reason that those closest to her keep dying off. This is her way of protecting them. Aubrey can’t see far enough outside of this façade to realize that in reality she is harming herself and those who love her.

That is until Kaeleb comes along and helps to bring Aubrey back to life. Let me just take a moment to gush over KAELEB!!!! Good lord, I am in love! He is a swoon-worthy BBF if there ever was one!

Unfortunately, Aubrey loses herself all over again when another series of tragic events make her regret ever opening herself up and exposing those she loves to her curse. Aubrey is deeply damaged and my GOD the things this girl has been through. It is no wonder why.

“You’ve always been my sunshine. Ever since we were kids… I know you’re still in there Bree. And I will find you.” ~Kaeleb
*sigh* Kaeleb… have I mentioned that I love him? His love for this broken girl is beyond compare.

“As long as you continue to travel through life in this darkness, you will never know how beautiful your light truly shines when you let yourself love and be loved. Trust me when I say, it’s a breathtaking sight to see. You burn as bright as the sun.” ~Kaeleb
The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller is a book that touched me deeply and one that I don’t think I will ever forget. The pain and heartache was so real. The love.. the friendships.. the FEELS… Aubrey Miller will make you FEEL. I felt every emotion from despair to giddy happiness. The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller gutted me and it gave me hope. I mourned and I fell in love. This is more than just a romance novel. This book is out of this world amazing and you MUST read it!

Selene's Review
4.5 - Beautiful - Smooches

Aubrey Miller is just a girl.
A girl who has experienced a lot of loss, thus losing her way for a very long time by choosing to remain buried inside gloom and blackness.
Aubrey hides away behind her goth alter ego, Raven.  Raven is dark in all respects - the way she looks, dresses, acts and even feels.  Aubrey believes everyone she cares about dies so she is determined to keep everyone at a distance.

When Aubrey goes off to college, things begin to change and Aubrey questions her entire belief system.  Her new roommate Quinn is a force to be reckoned with and sees through Raven, right to Aubrey.  And much to Aubrey's surprise, Kaeleb McMadden, a childhood friend, shows up at her door .... yet another person determined to drive away all that Raven represents.

Through these friendships, the support and encouragement of a mentor, and her guardian Linda's love, Raven disappears over time leaving Aubrey to enjoy life and the love that surrounds her.
There is no gloom, no fear, no anguish...just the joy-filled flittering of my heart, taking flight inside of me as it rises out of the darkness and into the light.
But when tragedy strikes again, Aubrey retreats to the safety of Raven, abandoning those she loves.

This is Aubrey's journey and it really feels like a priveledge to be able to share it.  There are so many things about this book that I loved.  The characters are all unforgettable - Aubrey, Quinn, Linda, Professor Palmer and Kaeleb .... OH KAELEB!!!  Can you say perfect book boyfriend?
"My soul breathed for the first time in ten years.  That's how I knew it was you.  It was always you." - Kaeleb
The story is full of heartbreak yet, at the end, my heart was smiling.  The tears were completely worth it.  As I read this book and expressed my fear of what was to come, L.B. asked me to "trust her."  And I didn't, LOL!  But hopefully you'll believe me when I say .... trust me, you want to read The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller.  It is a beautiful story of love, hope, friendship, pain and heartbreak, a story that I have no doubt will stay with me.
