Beautiful Broken Mess Blog Tour

 Synopsis:

When life's always been a mess, can you still turn it into something beautiful?

Jace Riley’s close connection with his identical twin brother, Jaxon, is put to the test when he tries to choose between keeping his promises and following his heart. Is this girl that still haunts his dreams, even after four years, really worth it? Jace can’t help but wonder if he made a huge mistake all that time ago when he let her walk into someone else’s arms, especially since that someone was his twin.

Audrey Mills often wonders at what point she should throw her hands up in defeat and allow all of the horrible circumstances of her life to overtake her. Despite the demons she has faced, however, something inside her won’t give in. When she leaves her small town in Texas to attend college in California, Audrey runs into the one guy who could make her or break her. But is the past they share too painful for them to overcome?

This is the second book in the broken series. While each book can stand on its own, it's recommended you read Beautiful Broken Rules before Beautiful Broken Mess.

4 "Hasn't it always been her?" smooches!

Beautiful Broken Mess is book 2 in Kimberly Lauren’s Broken Series.  While technically it could be read as a stand-alone; I recommend reading Beautiful Broken Rules (Broken #1) first.  All of the characters, with the exception of the heroine’s best friend, are from book one and you will have a better understanding of the story.

Beautiful Broken Mess is Jace’s book; who you will remember as Jaxon’s twin brother from Beautiful Broken Rules.  I think most of us fell a little in love with him back then.  There was such a mystery about Jace and I remember wondering if maybe he was gay.  He was sweet and charming, hot as hell, and never had a girlfriend.  Well, rest easy girls Jace is certainly NOT batting for the other team!

Jace is pining away for the girl who got away…  Audrey.   Remember Audrey?  No?
Do you remember Jaxon’s psycho ex-wife who showed up for a week and caused all that drama between him and Em???  THAT is Audrey!  Whaaaat?!?!?!

But, people are not always who they seem and right away I fell in love with Audrey.  This poor girl has been through hell more than once.  It seems that everyone in her life either hurts her or leaves her.  Jace and Jaxon included.

Jace and Audrey met first but through a huge mix-up she ended up with Jaxon.  Jace and Audrey have both pined for each other for years, but Jace will never go where his brother has been and so they both live mundane lives secretly wishing things had turned out differently.

Years later, they meet again and can no longer deny the feelings that they each harbor for the other.  But, the past is still haunting their present.  The promise Jace made to his brother still looms over their heads.  The hell that Audrey keeps hidden is still clouding everyone’s perception of her, including Jace’s.   They have so many obstacles to overcome and communication has never been their strong suit.  Will love be enough or will their past mistakes tear them apart once again?

Beautiful Broken Mess is a story about pain and survival, about true love and real heart-break; it’s a story about perseverance.  Sometimes we get dealt a really shitty lot in life, but you can either let it break you down or gain strength to rise above it.

I am not sure what it is exactly that had me so drawn to this story, but I had trouble putting it down.  Kimberly made me fall in love with Jace in Jaxon’s book and it set this one up perfectly! The beauty of it is that it never felt like I was being set up…  She does it again in Beautiful Broken Mess with Audrey’s best friend Lane.  He is a brilliant character and the brother she’s never had.  Lane is a huge part of Audrey’s life and I grew attached to him throughout the book, much like I did with Jace In book 1, only to discover that book 3, Beautiful Broken Promises, will be Lane’s book and I cannot wait!

4 "yea for second chances" Smooches!

“… there aren’t enough nights in a lifetime to get you out of my system.”

Jace and Audrey meet the summer before their senior year of high school.  The attraction is instant and mutual but because of a huge misunderstanding, they miss their chance to be together.  Jace miserably watches her turn to someone else and Audrey settles for another guy to escape her horrible life at home.

Separated by college, their paths cross several times over the years but they can never seem to get on the same page even though they both still have feelings for each other.  Since the story is told in both Jace and Audrey’s point of view, we see how much they both want just the chance to be together … it’s really frustrating!

Graduate school brings Audrey to the same city as Jace and their worlds collide when Audrey gets a job working with Jace’s twin brother’s girlfriend.  They become fast friends and Audrey is brought into their circle finally giving Jace and Audrey their chance at happily ever after.

“I’ve walked past so many pennies in my life, never bothering to pick them up because none of them were ever appealing to me.  Then one day, I literally crashed into the most gorgeous penny I’d ever seen., so I picked her off the ground, wiped away her tears, and became mesmerized by her every movement.  Stupidly, I let that penny get away from me, and I’ve regretted it ever since.  You were my lucky penny, Audrey …”

But will past mistakes and secrets destroy them before they even begin?

“The only thing I can see is her.  The only thing I can smell is her.  The only thing I can feel is…her.  Hasn’t it always been her?  It should have been.”

I really liked this story … A LOT!  The characters are very endearing (even though Jace acts a major fool at one point) but Audrey in particular tugged at my heartstrings.  I always seem to get attached to female characters that come from hardship yet rise above it all to become strong, take-no-shit women.  And that is Audrey.

“The truth is, I’ll always love Jace.  No matter how many times I think that maybe we’re better off without one another, there’s this part of me that won’t let go.  But I need to be able to breathe without him.”

I’ve been struggling to pinpoint what it is about this book I like so much.  There isn’t any one thing about the book that’s amazingly fantastic … rather everything about the book is consistent and good. I stayed up to the wee hours to finish it because I just couldn’t put it down.  I was vested in Jace and Audrey and I had to finish their story.

I read Beautiful Broken Rules, book 1 in the series, months ago and completely forgot how much I enjoy Kimberly Lauren’s writing.  She does a great job of creating an ensemble cast of characters ... the circle of friends she creates is series worthy ... you finish one book WANTING to know the secrets a character hides.  I went into Beautiful Broken Mess wanting to know why Jace NEVER  had a girlfriend in book 1 and that question was answered brilliantly!  We meet a new character in Beautiful Broken Mess, Audrey's male and very hot BFF Lane.  He is a great addition to the series and book 3 will be his.

Kimberly writes real characters and tells real stories that grab you and don’t let go!  I think that's what I like most about this series.  It's real and relatable yet good at the same time!

About The Author:

I'm a wanderer, an adventurer, a traveler.

I want to see it all. I haven't been everywhere but it's on my list.

"She travels the world & home is always in her heart."

Lately if I'm not traveling or chasing a toddler, I'm writing. Which is weird because I hated writing in college. Oh wait, that's because that was boring. Who really wants to sit there and cite all your sources into APA format? Not this girl. Writing for yourself is enjoyable and cathartic. Please try it. Then tell me about because I love indie authors.

When I was 19, I packed up and followed my high school sweetheart from Texas to California. We had a blast living it up in San Diego. Four years later we made a crazy decision and packed up again and moved to Germany. What? Yep, you read that right. Guess what? Best decision ever! We OWNED Europe. For three years we saw as much as we possibly could. We lived an hour outside of France, a couple from Switzerland and Italy. Most amazing time of my life. Please go out there and see the world, you won't regret it. After Europe we moved back to California, and for now we're just debating our next adventure.

I earned a degree in Child Development. And now I write novels. Makes perfect sense! I write because I walk around all day with these stories in my head. It's nice to be able to get them out of my head in an organized fashion. I hope that someone out there enjoys them, because I have enjoyed so many others'.
