What if a “Once in a Lifetime” could happen twice?

In Dahlia London’s world, happily ever after is a far cry from reality. Her soul has been left completely shattered by tragedy. But a surprising reunion with someone from her past is about to give her a reason to love again…

When rock star River Wilde comes back into Dahlia’s life, their super-charged connection runs deeper than either of them ever expected. The more time they spend together, the more intense their relationship becomes, and Dahlia believes at last she has found her soul mate.

But as old bonds fade and Dahlia’s grief begins to lift, her guilt and confusion remain. River desperately wants to be the one who mends what’s been broken—but with a past that refuses to stay buried, is it possible for their future to begin?

5 - Holy Cliffhanger Batman - Smooches

For a moment there, I felt as though I believed in love at first sight, which I didn’t.  And how could love at first sight even exist when you were already in love with someone else?

*sigh* I loved this book.  Loved it!  I love a book that stirs up my emotions …. this book had me boo-hooing early on and it wasn’t pretty.   The ugly cry does not suit me.  And it had me ready to hurt someone when it left me hanging with the ending I did not see coming AT ALL.

Happily in love with her boyfriend Ben, Dahlia is more than confused when she meets River one Halloween night at a bar.  She’s more than attracted to the hottie rocker … Dahlia feels a connection that truly confuses her considering her love and affection for her boyfriend.  When River’s break is over and he rejoins the band on stage, Dahlia makes a run for it, setting into motion a chain of events she never could’ve predicted.

With Ben no longer in the picture, Dahlia and River reconnect years later.  River is now a famous musician and Dahlia is sent to interview him in Vegas.  The sparks still fly but River is pissed that Dahlia skipped out on him all those years ago.  Even though they only spent a few moments together, River never forgot her and the connection they shared or the fact that she bailed on him.

Dahlia struggles to open her heart to River.  She’s only ever loved Ben and is having a difficult time letting go of her love for him.  While River did the rock ‘n roll bad boy thing over the years, it’s almost like he’s been waiting for Dahlia.

“Watching her now, so natural, so beautiful, I know why it only took that one meeting so long ago to know she owned me.  It’s like I was hers from the very time I looked into her beautiful eyes.” – River

And now, all these years later, they have the chance to be together …. to actually see if this attraction, this connection they share can amount to something meaningful and significant.  Can they work through the consequences of the choices they made so long ago?

And just when you think they have the answers, THE cliffhanger of all cliffhangers presents itself.  This cliffhanger was so good I wasn’t even bothered by it!  Absolutely loved that I didn’t see it coming!  I give the cliffhanger alone 5 SMOOCHES but the rest of the book is 5 SMOOCH-worthy as well!

4 -it's hard to forget - SMOOCHES

"I love you.  This doesn’t change anything,” I whisper, feeling strongly that he needs to know this.
“It changes everything Dahlia.”

Oooooooooo, I was READY for this book!  Like ‘on the edge of my seat, what in the world is going to happen now?’ kind of ready.   And it did not disappoint.

Ghosts from Dahlia’s past (well, one big ghost in particular) have made their way into River and Dahlia’s perfect world and they threaten what they have together.

“And what exactly were you figuring out?”
“Nothing.  Everything.  You.  Me.  Ben.  I don’t even know…”
“I didn't realize we needed figuring out,” he seethes.

River’s anger and jealousy are completely understandable yet Dahlia’s confusion is understandable as well.  These two are just is a crappy situation.  River and Dahlia never really got past the honeymoon phase of their relationship so when they are truly tested, they don’t have the coping skills as a couple to work through things together.  They fall back on the one thing they do really well - sex - but eventually it’s not enough to weather the storm.

“I want to believe your love is only for me.  That your lips are mine.  That your kisses are meant for me.  That your body belongs to me … But when you leave me to see him, it’s hard to know for sure.” - River

This story tested my loyalties and tugged at my heart strings.  Just because a love is different, doesn’t mean it runs any less deep.  At times, my head would want one thing for Dahlia yet my heart would want another.

“Taking her face in my hands, I kiss her hard.  She wraps her arms around my neck and I feel lost in her, lost in her touch, her soul, her love.  But it’s not a kind of lost where you want to be found.” - River

I absolutely loved getting lost in River and Dahlia’s story.  It was so easy to do … Kim’s writing is that good.  Even though River and Dahlia's story is over, I’m excited that the Connections series will continue with other characters!
