Staking His Claim by Tessa Bailey

Staking His Claim
(Line of Duty #5)
by Tessa Bailey

Synopsis

He wants her. All of her.

NYPD sniper Matt Donovan is in Hell. Instead of driving his best friend’s little sister home from college, he’s stuck with her roommate—a fresh-faced ray-of-sunshine with a body that makes grown men weep. There’s no way he’ll allow himself to taint the little vixen, no matter how hard she tries to tempt him, so he resigns himself to the longest—and hardest—drive of his life.

Matt’s obvious attraction suits grad student Lucy Mason just fine. She had no idea her brother’s best friend was so deliciously hot. Knowing he’d never have his wicked way with his buddy’s sister, she lies about her identity and seduces him. But Matt’s no fumbling college boy. His desires run deep—and dark—and he wants to teach Lucy what wicked really means.

Matt’s demanding appetites only make Lucy want more. But when her cover's blown, he’s furious—even as his hunger for her becomes insatiable. Matt can’t trust anyone, least of all himself. And he knows all too well that darkness always destroys the light…

4 - HOLY HAWT DAMN - SMOOCHES

"The first time I tongue you into coming, it's going to be an apology.  The second time will be a reward for waiting."  He fell to his knees and took his first intoxicating taste of Lucy.... "The third time is going to be because I fvcking love to hear you scream.  "

I read Staking His Claim on a whim .... it's the fifth book in a series I've never heard of, from an author whose work I've never read.  The synopsis caught my eye and it was on sale so I thought .... what the hell!

You can imagine my surprise when I absolutely LOVED this book!

What surprised me even more was the fact that an insta-lust turned insta-love storyline didn't bother me at all .... usually it bugs the crap out of me.  I guess I was in the mood to not over analyze the story and just go with it.

I don't think this book is officially deemed a novella but it is a quick read.  And despite that fact, it didn't feel rushed ... I mean the story takes place mostly over a week's time but I really felt like I got in the heads of Lucy and Matt (probably because so much of the story is their inner dialog .... Matt's a quiet one).

The synopsis had me thinking there would be some dark stuff going on but Matt's not so bad ... he likes to spank, be the boss, and he ties her up one time.  Lucy is totally on board though.  I hated that Matt felt bad / dirty for his tendencies ... it was really sweet to see Lucy embrace them and try to comfort him for wanting to do those things with her.
His vision blurred around the edges at her husky request.  Never.  He'd never had this part of him accepted before, countered so perfectly, and it felt like coming home.
I was surprised to find a sweet little love story tucked away in there!

I will be back-tracking and reading the other books of this series.  Tessa definitely has a new fan in me!
